• In-state tuition: $317 per credit hour.
• Out-of-state tuition: $317 per credit for 1-6 credits, $415.50 per credit for 7 or more credits.
• Most graduate students take 6-9 credits per semester.
• There is no application fee.
   

Year 1
Courses are offered in eight-week sessions during the fall and spring, and shorter four-week sessions in the summer. It’s recommended to take one three-hour course in each half of the semester, plus an internship course if you’re already teaching.

In your first year, you’ll start with introductory classes on teaching, diversity and literacy. After that, you’ll move on to professional education courses that match your licensure area. If you’re already working as a full-time teacher of record, you’re encouraged to start Internship I in your first semester and continue with Internship II in your second semester. 

Year 2
In your second year, you’ll finish the professional education courses you need for your specific licensure and get ready for the final internship course, Internship III. Like the other internship courses, you need to be hired and working as a full-time teacher of record to take this one. During this year, you can also choose to start taking classes for a master’s degree, which you can complete either while finishing your licensure or afterward.

The special education program includes strategies that help all learners. Secondary education students take SED 526 to learn about cultural diversity and EDF 538 to design lessons for all students, including English language learners (ELL). You can also choose to focus on ELL strategies in EDF 538.

Elementary education students take BLED 578 and RED 587 to develop teaching tools for English language learners.

In New Mexico, you can be a teacher of record even before starting any education courses. 

Over 95 percent of alternative licensure candidates are already teaching full-time. Partner school districts and ENMU provide the initial training you need. You’ll also get support through on-the-job mentoring from your district and internship courses from ENMU to help you succeed.
