If you already hold a bachelor’s degree and are interested in becoming a teacher in New Mexico, Eastern New Mexico University’s alternative licensure programs offer a flexible and effective pathway to earning your teaching license.

These programs help you meet the state’s requirements for teaching in elementary, secondary or special education. Each program is designed to give you the knowledge and practical skills needed for success in the classroom. Approved by the New Mexico Public Education Department, the coursework blends instructional strategies with foundational teaching principles to ensure you're well-prepared from day one.

All coursework in the alternative licensure program can also count toward a master’s degree in the same field. Many students choose to finish their licensure first, then complete the final 15-18 hours needed to earn their graduate degree.
