New Mexico school districts serve nearly 330,000 students enrolled in public, charter, and state sponsored schools. That means New Mexico is on the lookout for the next generation of teachers. (1)
If you’re enthusiastic about education and serving the community, there are many opportunities available for you in the Land of Enchantment!
New Mexico has 19 pueblos, each with their own language. When hiring, most pueblo schools give first priority to tribal members, but you don’t have to belong to a tribe to teach in a pueblo school.
Some pueblo schools are run by the Bureau of Indian Education, while others are tribally controlled. To work in one of these schools, check out the Bureau of Indian Education job finder, or call the specific school where you want to work.
If you’re a tribal member and expert, you can earn a Native American Language and Culture certificate—and teach without a degree! For this certificate, you’ll need to speak the language, have knowledge of the tribal culture and get verification from your local tribal authority. (6)(7)
