A teacher residency is an intensive, full academic-year, clinical teacher preparation program offered through some New Mexico teacher preparation programs, in partnership with local school districts. Once you’re accepted into a residency program, your program will place you in a school.
As a teacher resident, you’ll spend a full year co-teaching in a classroom alongside your mentor teacher. You’ll get hands-on experience, build your skills, receive ongoing coaching and feedback, and connect your coursework directly to classroom practice while receiving a stipend to offset financial barriers.
“I’ve been able to not worry about having to have another job... I can put all of my focus on being a teacher. Without the funding, I would have been stressed the whole time.”
